A Call for Safe Supplements |
|
|
WHEREAS a number of rogue manufacturers in the supplement industry produce supplements containing dangerous substances such as designer steroids and market these supplements over-the-counter as "safe and legal;" |
|
|
|
WHEREAS the consumption of these dangerous products poses grave health threats and has been a known cause of liver injury, stroke, kidney failure and pulmonary embolism;
|
|
|
|
WHEREAS all supplements must be safe and effective so that dangerous substances such as designer steroids are not consumed by Americans;
|
|
|
|
WHEREAS the failure to act promptly and decisively risks unacceptably endangering the lives of countless Americans;
|
|
|
I urge the 111th Congress to enact regulatory reform that achieves the following:
- A regulatory framework that ensures that all supplements sold over-the-counter, in retail stores and online, are safe and effective.
- The federal agencies regulating this industry have the tools to effectively protect consumers’ health.
